Man… The Preconceived Notions show we did last night (Thursday Nov 19th) was bananas! The line up was insane artist-wise, and I got to meet some awesome new faces, as well as kick it with some downright cool ass peeps. We got there a tad late, but I set up as fast as possible to start hittin the canvas. (Big ups to the homie Chris de Leon for pickin up my easel) Here’s my sketch going into the show: (Titled – It’s Not Just for the Birds)

My lazy color comp:

And here’s what it looks like now:

Most of the time, I’m content with leaving a live piece as it is when the event finishes. I almost view it like a performance: What you do live in front of people is what you’re left with. But this time the concept was too good for me to leave it as is. I won’t post this in my Traditional gallery till I work it over some more, so hopefully in the next few days I can share a more complete piece with you guys. All in all, I’m really happy with the work SO FAR, and JToddO gave me a great compliment saying it was the best thing he’s ever seen me paint. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I didn’t get a chance to take a lot of photos since I was so engraved in the piece (Shit, I didn’t even drink that night!), but I do have a few snaps you can catch in my Photo section. If you got any photos, and wanna send em up to me so I can post them up (you’ll receive credit of course), get at me via electronic mailĀ <nick@individualcollective.com> and I’ll put them up ASAP.

The human kind… Blech… For the past 3 days or so, I been bogged down with a mild cold. More of an annoyance than anything, it still throws everything outta wack. So, I been quarantined to the confines of my house, sleeping, watching movies/TV, and generally just trying to get better as fast as possible.

That’s pretty much been my diet for the past 3 days. That cupcake on the floor isn’t real… It’s Mochi’s squeaky toy.
Anyways, Tomorrow (Thursday) November 19th. I’ll be live painting at the Blue Macaw (2565 Mission @22nd St, SF), for an event called Preconceived Notions: A winter fashion, music and art event. Doors go up at 9PM and closes down at 2AM. There’s an $8 cover charge so make sure you stop off at an ATM… cause if you’re anything like me, you don’t carry any cash . The show has an immense lineup (see flyer below). Including four of us from Individual Collective: Myself, Dyno, raw*ul & Albert Lam. Also in attendance are the homies from 3 eye elephant: J.Todd.O, Chris de Leon and Ichii Ohryin. The 7 of us make up only about half of the visual art field in attendance, so you know it’s gonna be nuts. Not only that, but there’ll be a fashion show, and live music as well. Peep the flyer!

I spent a lot of time today trying get a sketch together, but since I was still under the weather, I couldn’t come up with anything satisfactory. Sometimes, when the planets just won’t line up for you, you just gotta take a step back from whatever it is you’re working on and do something else for a while. That’s exactly what I did… I took a nap, watched some old ass anime, ate some soup, and pet my puppy… I came right back to the project and nailed down a great concept, a decent sketch, and a good color comp. All within about an hour. So now I’m even more excited about tomorrow’s event, especially since I’m at the tail end of my sickness. It’s lookin like all systems are a go. See you tomorrow!

Hey gang, sorry it’s been a while, but damn, it’s been busy! Here’s what I got coming up this Saturday!
First, in San Francisco, I’ll be doing an event called “1 for 2″ Hosted by Toms and Shoebiz. It’ll be at the Noe ShoeBiz located at 3810 24th St from 12PM-5PM… Myself, Kris Mestizo, Shwin, and Ichii Ohryin will be in attendance painting pairs of Toms shoes that are sold that day. Toms already donates 1 pair of shoes to children in need for every pair sold. On Saturday though, ShoeBiz will be matching that so TWO pairs will be donated for every pair sold! So make sure that you come out on Saturday and do your part for this great cause and get your pair customized by some of the freshest artists I know! Below are some great examples that Kris Mestizo and I painted in preparation. Enjoy! (Click to Enlarge)
After that of course, is OSS part 5!
You know the drill… 419 Georgia St. Downtown Vallejo! 6PM-10PM. Open Mic, Open Turntables, Open Canvas, Open Mind! This week we have Associated Fresh performing (Gigio & Dren Doh). And not only will the live painting be in full effect, but IC is putting on our first DIGITAL live art collab showcased by projectors! You gotta be there to see it!
If that’s still not enough to get you out, this Saturday’s OSS is being presented to help raise money for The Chron’s and Colitis Foundation of America. OSS is always free, BUT this Saturday… $3 gets you a raffle ticket ($5 for 2) WHICH NETS YOU A CHANCE TO WIN 1 OF 5 VIDEO GAMES THAT EA HAS DONATED!
These aren’t bargin bin games either… I’m talking about Madden, Fight Night 4, Spore, etc. 3 bucks for a game?? PLUS you’re benefitting a good cause? There’s no more excuses to not be there.
Well that’s it for the events this Saturday… I’m filling up my Karma Bar from all the good causes I’m doing art for this weekend! Maybe a Cintiq will fall from the sky into my lap.
